Can't update LLM API key without renaming the credential

Update your API key by going to models, clicking Edit, overwriting the old API key with a new one and clicking Save. This triggers an error “Credential Name already used in Project, please provide a different Credential Name.” To get around this, you must change the credential name in some way. It isn’t clear to the user (me) why the credential name needs to be changed.
